About James Martinez

Career highlights past and present

Based in Southern California, James Martinez is a police officer with more than two decades of experience in law enforcement. As an officer for the City of Calipatria, he engages in standard police work to ensure the safety of the community. He participates in investigations involving felonies and misdemeanors, keeping thorough documentation of each incident and examining crime scenes. Among his many other responsibilities as a police officer, James Martinez investigates offenders with outstanding warrants and manages those who are already in custody. Concurrent to these endeavors, he engages in volunteer police work as part of the neighborhood watch program.

In 2019, James Martinez founded the Southwestern SPCA, where he currently serves as a humane officer. In this role, he investigates cases of animal cruelty and neglect and coordinates the rescue of animals who have experienced the most serious instances of abuse. Since joining the SPCA, Mr. Martinez has also developed several programs that aim to involve members of the local community in animal rescue. His veterans training program helps former military personnel to learn how to rehabilitate rescue animals. He also developed the SPCA’s cadet training program, which teaches at-risk youth the value of compassion for animals and how to care for them.

Prior to his current endeavors, Mr. Martinez spent a decade with the Apple Valley School District Police Department. As a school police officer, he ensured the safety of all students and personnel throughout his district. Mr. Martinez launched a new school Explorer program and an accompanying initiative that provided students with employment opportunities in the field of law enforcement.

Mr. Martinez is also a veteran of the United States Army, having served as a member of the military police during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He has dedicated much of his career to helping other veterans. In 2010, he earned distinction as the veteran of the year for his work in supporting veterans in job training programs.
